Overview
Germany's most historically significant wine estate — continuously producing since the Benedictine monks planted Riesling here in 1100 CE. The 1775 late harvest 'accident' that created Spätlese (the messenger carrying permission to harvest was delayed, grapes rotted nobly) transformed German winemaking. Schloss Johannisberg Rieslings are benchmarks for Rheingau elegance.
